Body Image

5 of my photographs of plus size model Sinead Monaghan were on the telly today on Seoige & O'Shea. This was the discussion.

Body Image

Last week the death took place of the 21-year-old Brazilian model, Ana Carolina Reston. She weighed just 88 pounds, was 5'7" tall and succumbed to a generalised infection caused by anorexia nervosa. The model died on the eve of a Paris photoshoot, having kept her weight down on a diet of tomatoes and apples. This follows events in September when the organisers of Madrid Fashion Week banned super-skinny models after the death of model Luisel Ramos, 22, of heart failure, reportedly after weeks of consuming nothing but lettuce and diet drinks. So how does what's happening in the fashion industry impact of how young girls see themselves? To talk about this, GrĂ¡inne and Joe are joined by Suzanne Horgan, who is a body image consultant and by a model with a more representative figure Sinead Monaghan.
