Called into Dublin Fashion week today to say hi to some of the lovely designers who kindly gave us clothes to use on our last Totally Dublin shoot. It was really nice as all of them had copies of our shoot in their showrooms and on their invites and the reaction to it was just amazing. It's just nice to hear back from the people responsible for the clothes from our shoots for once! Corina also managed to grab a few AMAZING pieces for our shoot on Friday so happy days! We then went to Yamamori for foodsies. yumsies. Right now I am the most tired person in the whole universe. Ever. Really wanted to go to the Harvey Nicks show this evening but I was way too tired.

While searching my archive for some old pictures of Assets model Mathew John for a film production company, I stumbled across a really old disc with some shots I took years ago of one of my favourite models Rachel Montague. Her back then agency were trying to make her look 'less sexy' for whatever reason they had. Therefore they put a cap on her and shoved her hair back. Surely the agency had their reason.. But I think Rachel is naturally so sexy with her gorgeous long hair what is the point of trying to change her image like that and make her look like everyone else?
Rachel does some acting as well, she was recently in The Tudors looking SO HOT. and also starred in Paddy Casey's new video which you should check out here.

If I were an actors agent I would snap her up right away! HA!

PS I think I'm going to start doing a 'my favourite model' regular post thingy, kind of like Corina's Model Mondays but going to restrict it to Irish Models which I have worked with and can tell a little story about.. So this is the first.

omg I'm soooo busy these days it's just mental. Mental.
Team Gang (MissLili, YoCo, Lara & Rachel) has a day out on Wednesday. I'm finally escaping the studio and heading to Dublin Fashion Week in the Radisson to check out some of the local designers. Funsies! The next 3 weeks are absolutely mental for me have so much workies so I probably won't have time to blog too much. I probably will though because I am such a blog addict.

Here are my shots of RTE's Joe O'Shea which I just shot (seems like only a few days ago but maybe it was a week ago) for RSVP magazine. The mad thing is, the mag is already out, and already arrived in my mailbox this morning. They for some reason gave me a subscription to it, and I keep getting it sent to me every month, which is nice. I just checked out the website for the first time and found 2 of their covers had my photees.

Today I also rememberd that the Irish Blog Awards are on Saturday in the Alexander Hotel. I am shortlisted for Best Photo Blog this year which is exciting. I don't expect to win or anything, but it will be fun to mingle with all the bloggers. Me, Uners and Iany are going and whoever wants to join us is more than welcome- Well actually I'm not sure because....

This was my second ever shoot in German. It's kinda weird at first (even though I'm fluent) But you just get used to it after a while. There are a few things I always say while shooting (which are very cheesy and everyone takes the piss) which I didn't know how to translate like 'strong eyes' not as in the make-up but expression. And other cheesy sayings like 'FIERCE' etc. I just noticed how used I am to saying some of the things I say during shoots.
Anyway, really enjoyed German shoot, Anna the model was so lovely and so was Maren who did hair & makeup. By the way, all artists in Germany do both hair and make-up. I think that is so awesome. I wish more artists in Ireland did both rather than one or the other. Actually I take that back. It is so much faster if you have two people to do it and they do it at the same time. So maybe it's not better. Hmm I don't know now.

I shot Miss World today at the Radisson in Stillorgan. Was a very rushed shoot only had a couple of hours but it turned out great so it's all good. MeNoFembo are at the studio today recording so I missed American Idol (crysies) because they are making too much noise and I'm not alloud to have the sound on the telly. I took their promo shot though and it looks awesome!! Woooo.

I'm pretty tired today. I think i'm over working myself and not taking enough time off but when everything is so busy it's extremely difficult to just switch off. Any time i'm at home i'd be working on the laptop so in order to chill i need to leave the house. Kinda weird because usually people stay at home to chill. Was shooting in studio all day yesterday . It was a fashion spread for one of the papers . . shoot was loads of fun! Lara is thinking of giving up make up artistry and becoming a professional neon material holder. Ha! Straigt after that shoot i had to go to The Shelbourne to shoot Joe O'Shea for a magazine. After dropping my gear back home i had to (yes, had to) call into iany and mary in the Dice bar for a glass of wine. Otherwise i would've kept doing work all evening. Una and ragin called up as well and also corina so it was funsoes.

Weekend of Randomness

I guess the weekend started on Thursday with drinkies in Keoghs (euughh I hate that place) Ian and I met up with Emma and Darren and Yoco and then Anto and Daragh and Rachel and Anastasia. Stayed there for a few drinks but then it got really annoying so we went over to Cocoon for some cocktails Cocoon was soooo dead which is mad for a thursday night. We then went to Bruxelles and drank jagerbombs. oh why.
(dont you just hate when you order Red Bull and they give you that crap 'Burn' drink instead? It tastes completley different why would they do that? Especially when they actually have Red Bull upstairs but are too lazy to get it. Grrrrrrrr.) So anyway, that was that.
On Friday Ian and I stayed in the Clarence for a night. I did a few jobs for the Clarence and so they gave me a free stay including dins how funsies! It was kinda weird cuz you could basically see our apartment from our hotel window. Saturday it was KKs birthday party in Lucan, was great to see everyone! Saturday night I had to work doing social pics in The Four Seasons at the Gold Cup Ball in aid of Fighting Blindness. Iany came out to help me which was great. Unexpectedly, they also sat us down in the ballroom for dinner. It was a little bit weird sitting there in my black work clothes while all the other ladies were wearing amazing ballgowns. Food was yummy though , Barberry duck breast for starters with pears and blue cheese and rocket salad, and rack of lamb for main. mmmmmm yumsies.

Have been so busy and don't even remember the last time I had a day off. Am working 7 days these days . . Weekend was good fun but very busy. Saturday after working all day in the studio, had to work at Ray Shah's 30th birthday party in Purty Kitchen. Lara came down with me to help me take names down (thanks hun) and then YoCo called up. We then headed up to Spy obviously to catch up with the lovely Rachel M (who was also at Rays party previously giving out yummy free Tiger beer.. mmmm) After Spy me and Lara got a taxi in 0.002 seconds. Which was amazing.

Sunday I was shooting the Jimmy Cake for State in town of and so I missed American Idol repeat. I was informed that Simon looked HOT though. (obviously)

So yay it's Friday (means nothing to me as am working all weekend) But still.
Spy tonight shall be fun- Damian Lazarus is playing (not that I know much about his music or anything- sure I don't even know the difference between techno/house/etc.) I do like Minimal funky house though (only joking Anthony) but anyway, last time Damian played the Music Centre I had a Kareoke sing off with him to 99 Luft Ballons. And then I beat everyone singing Vanilla Ice with my eyes closed. ICE ICE BABY.
On Saturday me and the girls are working in the studio and Saturday night I am taking pics at Ray Shah's 30th birthday party which should be fun. Sunday I have a shoot for State. Then the weekend is over :( Today I am shooting a member of Boyzone- funsies!

New Kids On The Block Stage Comeback

I was obsessed with NKOTB for years. My walls were covered with their posters I had millions of videos, tapes, nkotb bedset, dolls, mugs and about five billion tshirts. I was in love with Donnie (he was the cool one who smoked) and I went to see them 3x and each concert was the best day of my life. In fact, I was just talking about them the other night with Foxy and YoCo while we were out for dins. Foxy told me about the time she met them. And I am still so jealous.

Even though I am working tomorrow only at 1pm and work is funsies anyway. I'm up early today for a shoot in Enniskery. Had a bit of a dramatic morning regarding shoot details but now all is sorted, taxi is cancelled and I am waiting on my lift (the gorgeous Baiba from Assets) to our shoot location which is actually the clients house. It's my third year shooting for this client (I must be doing something right..) and he has an amazing huge house so it should be good. Especially working with Baiba makes everything so easy as she is such a pro.

Every once in a while I sit back and think how amazing my job is. I wake up, and I am in work. I don't have to sit in traffic for hours. and I don't have to drive home after work. I spend most of my days surrounded by hot chicks (which isn't always great for the whole feeling beatiful thing..) and I get paid to take photees. What else could you ask for.

Was pretty relaxing.. nothing too crazy... had a quick job on Friday eve photographing Dan Le Sac Vs Scroobius Pip for State Magazine (Can't wait till the mag is out) Then me and Iany met up with Corina and Anto in The Morgan for some vino.. mmmmm. And more vino back at Party Central where Uners called up as well. Haven't seen her since I got back so that was nice. Me and Yoco were working the next morning in the Studio so didn't go too crazy. After work on Saturday I obviously watched American Idol (Simon... drooooooool. so hot.) and then met up with Corina and Una for yummy fancy dins in L'Ecrivain. It was so yummy. MMMMMMM. We were way too full to go drinking but called into Spy where we bumped into the lovely and gorgeous Rachel and Anastasia. Sunday was spent chilling obviously.

Everyone was freeeeeeeezing on this shoot.. I wasn't really as I never get cold when I work. The only bad thing was that I wore my stupid cheap Penny's Ugg fakes on the ice which meant my socks and feets were totally wet throughout the shoot. Grossies.

Poor Felicia fell flat on her arse during one of the shots.. thankfully she didn't hurt herself. I love the shot though, her reaction is great.

U Magazine shoot which I shot a few weeks ago at the ice rink in Smithfield. Was very fun. Tried to create a fun young shoot this time, rather than anything too high fashion. Am very happy with it. Thank god the girls could ice skate.. They were great on the ice! well done! We went skating ourselves after... We only lasted 10 mins on the ice.. we were extrememly tired after a long days's shoot (is our excuse) oh, and the skates really hurt.

Here are some shots I took of one of my idols Alek Wek a few weeks back. I was so nervous. She is such a big world supermodel and what if my pics are shit? I mean, if I manage to make Alek look bad then that definitley means I am the worst photographer in the whole wide world. How can anyone make her look bad, she is just so beautiful. So anyway, I am not too happy with these shots as a whole, but keep reminding myself that these were just press shots, rather than a high fashion shoot. I had about 2 mins. I still think she has something very powerful in her eyes in the first shot, and I love her laugh in the second shot. I just wish I had done something more.. I don't really know what. Hopefully there will be a next time.

flew over to Kerry yesterday for a shoot in Aghadoe Heights Hotel. What a lovely spot! We were to fly back that same evening so really had to rush on the shoot. It was a long day.... Got to the airport for our flight back to discover that there is a little delay of about 30 mins. That turned to one hour, then two hours and finally we flew with a 3 hour delay. And me and Martha had to fight the grumpy stupid ladys at the counter to get our food vouchers. I finally got home at around 11.30 and was soooooo tired. Just about enough energy to pack my gear as it was back to the airport for another early morning flight.. I think I had about 8 hours sleep in 3 days.

I flew back to Dublin on Thursday after a few days in Germania during the week... The reason I flew back was that I had to do some social pix for some Christmas party which I very late found out was cancelled. So I was a bit annoyed about that. But on a positive note, that meant I was able to shoot Delorentos at The Ambassador instead, which was much more fun! The lighting I thought was absolutely crap! Couldn't shoot for half of it (as in, half of my three songs) because it was just too dark.. I stayed for the whole gig because I heart Delorentos. Fair play to the boys who managed to sell out the venue.. And everyone was singing all the words to all their songs.. and all these people just seemed to be so excited to be there which was great. Well done lads! I then headed up to Spy to Jazzanova (Or DJ Cassanova as I was saying all night) and met up with Corina and Uners (who had just come from RTE from doing the Late Late show- well donesies dude!) Bumped into the Bscene homies and the HKM crew who were having their xmas party. I had to work all day Saturday and the only way to get through it is to pretend I'm feeling amazing. It actually worked. So I'm kinda feeling hungover today instead which doesn't really make sense.

Off to Kerry tomorrow for a shoot have to be at airport at 6.30 eeeeeek. Then off to Germania on Tuesday. I'm such a jetsetter.

Here is a shoot I did a little while ago which I really really love. Possible my favourite shoot ever.
The Sunday Independent LIFE Magazine ran the first 4 shots today which I was really excited about, but was so dissapointed when I picked up the magazine today and saw what they looked like in print. They were dark.. and dull... and the print quality was absolutely crap- I don't know how it happend. There is no definition on the skin and they just look completely different to my actual files. Now I know that when I see my stuff in magazines they always look a little bit different colour wise or whatever.. but I was NEVER as disappointed as I was seeing these today. So annoying. Oh wellsies.

I shot Felicia's portfolio recently. It was her first ever shoot. I was so impressed with her, I booked her for a magazine shoot the following week. She is so beautiful and has such a natural lovely smile. As well as that, she gives it that extra something which some models don't, or are afraid to give... or are too shy. She brings her personality into the shoot and that really shows. Even a new model cannot expect to be directed by me completely. She needs to bring some of herself into the shoot and try different things even though she doesn't really know what she's doing. How are you meant to improve if you don't try? Check out Felicia's first ever magazine shoot in a shop near you in January.

Much to catch up on as I have been away from the blog for a few days.. Katy was laid to rest today.. May she rest in peace...
Went to see Duran Duran in the Phoenix Park marquee last week with Iany which was great fun, especially because he loves them so much so it was nice to go to a gig which HE's really into, for a change. I only took my new snappy shotty camera so I have shite pics only and a few shite videos because I was only figuring out how the camera works. Can't even remember what day of the week that was. Maybe Wednesday? On thursday did a fun shoot for U Magazine which should be out at the start of January. As well as shooting it, I organised everything for it, from choosing the location, booking models, hair and make up artists etc. So do check out my 'shoot coordination' next month in the magazine. Woohoo!
Also, check out the Independent's LIFE magazine this coming Sunday (I think) for a cool photoshoot I did recently with super awesome amazing stylist Corina Gaffeygang. Must watch Corrie now, I'm sure I'll find some more stuff to woffle about later on.

in that order. Started out in Elephant & Castle where I met up with Burco and YoCo for some yummy chicken wings and vino.. and we didn't even have to wait for a table which was weird for a Thursday night. Was great to hang out with Burco again as I haven't seen her for aaages. It's weird how there are some friends you end up seeing all the time, and others that you never ever see. I used to hang out with Burco almost every day while we were in college and now for some reason we never see eachother. Anyway we then went back to Corina's joined by Uners and Joycer for some singstar Rock Ballads funsies. We hardly got to sing many tunes because we called into Katy French's birthday party over in Krystle. Bumped into LOADS of people... Lainey!!, The Thinkhouse Crew, Ray Shah, models Avril and Michelle McGrath, Paradise Pictures homies, Michael VIP etc. Then, the free booze finished, the Stereophonics came in, and we left. Today I had to work all day which wasn't the most pleasant thing but at least I take photees for a living so it ain't that bad!

Straight after I took the following photee, the bouncer came up to me and informed me that I may not take photees in the VIP area (I was only using my mini fun camera) he also then demanded I delete the photee I had just taken. I told him its grand I won't take any more, but he persisted that I delete it in front of him. Which I had to do to avoid a big drama. but HA! I actually took 2!! sickened aren't you!!

Alek Wek, The Klaxons and Andrea Roche – what do they all have in common? Apart from the obvious – rich, successful and famous they have all been shot by the notable Dublin based fashion and music photographer Lili Forberg.

A little over two years ago Forberg emerged on the photography scene and has been steadily raising her profile ever since. She cites her biggest achievement as being able to work full time in the demanding industry “I feel so grateful that I am able to work full time as a photographer since the day I graduated from college.”

Forberg began photography at a young age. At the age of twelve, when most of us are more concerned with hanging out with our friends, Forberg was borrowing her mother’s cameras and shooting gigs. She admits that her mother knew of these late night adventures and approved of her hobby. “My mother was good about me going to gigs as long as I did my homework and went to school. My friends lied to their parents. I never had to.”

Going straight for the big guns so to speak – Forberg’s first ever gig she shot was Guns ‘n’ Roses in Cologne, an hour away from her then home in Düsseldorf, Germany. Her mother, who accompanied her into the venue, drove her but when the music got too loud she left leaving Forberg on her own. Thinking of myself as a twelve year old, being left alone in a large venue surrounded by middle age rockers, my reaction is to ask her if she was scared. Without hesitation Forberg says: “Not at all. I was too excited to be scared.”

Being a female photographer in the sweaty pits of rock concerts would appear intimidating to most. Interested in how the dynamic works in a small cramped area, where time is at the essence to get the shot, I ask Forberg is there huge competition in the photography pit. Far from the picture I imagined Forberg quashes my thoughts of snarling photographers out for themselves. “There is huge camaraderie in the pit at gigs. There is no pushing and if there is a good spot to shoot everyone swaps around.”

It is not just the pits of concerts that are a male subjugated area; the photography trade in general seems to be ruled by men. Principally in the international fashion market it is apparent where I stumble to name ten female fashion photographers. But in Dublin there is a relatively new batch of female fashion photographers trying to revert the tradition. Forberg is among one of them.

Obviously being a female photographer proves advantageous at certain times especially when it comes to Forberg’s fashion work. She feels that it certainly helps the working relationship and provides a much calmer, relaxed atmosphere. Although some of her shots seem provocative she believes that the sleaze element is absent and it always shows in the photographs if the model is comfortable.

Working with new models is part of everyday life for Forberg and it is essential that they be at ease. Regularly she has girls that have never stood in front of a camera before. Forberg says that she always tries to embolden new models to move on their own and try new poses. Some models do not need to be encouraged. “I really love discovering new talent. The results are sometimes amazing. I can’t get over some girls that are 16 years old still in school and pose like a top model. Some girls are just natural.”

Forberg has never advertised. The Internet has been an essential and invaluable tool for awareness of her company. With the likes of Myspace, Bebo and her photography blog, Forberg has mobilized every outlet for promotion and awareness. The nature of these sites allows Forberg to network with other people in the profession that might be unknown to her.

Forberg’s online presence also provides clients a snap shot in to her life. On her photography blog she uploads photographs of nights out and behind the scenes at shoots, it feels like peering into a diary and one sees what kind of person she is. Forberg started her blog when she was bored living in Germany and wanted to communicate with her friends. She realised the power of her blog when random strangers would leave comments admiring her work. Today she gets about 170 hits a day.

On Forberg’s Bebo, a social networking site, she uploads personal photographs as well as her work with recognisable Irish models Katy French, Aoife Cogan and Glenda Gilson. Through Bebo young girls contact her inquiring about how to come a model and Forberg’s model portfolio services. On average she gets 5 – 10 inquires about model portfolios a day.

Judging by the amount of attention Lili Foberg is getting it seems that 2008 offers a huge scope of further endeavors for the assiduous photographer. You never know you could be next to be captured by the lens of Lili Forberg.

Busy weekend to say the least! Corina and I were shooting in SPY all day Friday. So happy with the shoot yaysies so it will be up shortly. I then just headed home to drop off my gear and headed back out to meet my college girlies for dins in good old Yamamori. Bento Box yumminess!! We then went for a few quite pints and Corina and Una joined us. We then called over to SPY for Dr. Lektroluv. Spy was just INSANE. It was sooooooooooooo jammers I have never seen anything like it. Saturday night should have really been spent sitting on the couch watching crap but instead, had to call up to Club M for the Irish Bebo Babes final. Congrats to Cheryl who won. She is gorgeous. Was also meant to shoot Ham Sandwich that evening in Whelans but couldnt make it because of Bebo Babes so on Sunday (again instead of being on the couch watching Corrie Omnibus) I had to go to the Village and shoot them at their all age show. I love Ham Sandwich so I didn't mind too much :)
